Real Men of Genius

I really like the concept of the Bud Light ad campaign of Real Men of Genius. Not enough that I’ll buy that craptacular beer, but enough that I will blatantly steal it.

Today’s Real Man of Genius is the guy who figured out how to make frozen microwavable White Castle sliders (with cheese) and sell that at my local grocer. Its a great dinner when its just me and Dinah at home and she only allows me enough time to nuke something.

  1. Recently a few friends and I have had conversations about sexism and how it is STILL so present especially in our media. We have talked about the Bud Light “Real Men of Genius” commercial series. First off, these commercials are ridiculous because they assume that “genius” inventions – such as gym shorts, giant pocketknives, all you can eat buffets etc. –all came from the minds of men. There are no corresponding “Real Women of Genius” ad spots.

Then today, I was listening to the radio, and the following commercial came on:

MR. DEPARTMENT STORE MANNEQUIN DRESSER UPPER

Bud Light Presents: Real Men of Genius (real men of genius) Today we salute you Mr. Department Store Mannequin Dresser Upper (Mr. Department Store Mannequin Dresser Upper) You live the ultimate fantasy, Spending your days surrounded by naked women who never speak (Living the dream) Wooden nubs, plastic no-no’s, artificial who-ha’s, you’ve handled more fake female parts than a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon (They sure feel real). Your hours are flexible, even better so are the women you are undressing (Ooooooh!) So crack open an ice cold Bud Light O’ Mac Daddy of the mannequins, when it comes to undressing fake women, you’re the real man (Mr. Department Store Mannequin Dresser Upper)

This one was even worse than any of the others I had ever heard. This ad blatantly objectifies women. It goes as far to say that it is men’s “ultimate fantasy” to be surrounded by naked woman who don’t talk. This is a perfect example of the media telling us that the ideal woman is beautiful and brainless. I am personally extremely offended by this and feel like I should do something about it. My first action will be to never drink Budweiser again. My second action will be to write this email, and tell as many people as I can that they should not support this either. From there, I will write letters to Budweiser and tell them how I feel. I am including contact information for Budweiser and Anheuser-Busch (Bud’s parent company)

Mail a letter to any or all of these three executives:

    · August A. Busch III
o Chairman of the Board of Directors

    · Patrick T. Stokes
o President, CEO, and Director; Chairman and CEO, Anheuser-Busch, Inc.; Chairman, Anheuser-Busch International

    · John E. Jacob
o EVP, Global Communications, and Director

    Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
    One Busch Place
    St. Louis, MO 63118

    Or Phone: 1-800-DIAL BUD (1-800-342-5283)

If you want to see more of the commercial lyrics:

Spread the word. Together we can actually make a difference and tell the world (starting with Budweiser) that we are not okay with this. I know I am not a brainless body, and I don’t want anyone telling me or my fellow females that we are.

  2. Hey lady, what’s your deal? So Budweiser isn’t marketing their beer to women.

Nobody should be drinking Budweiser anyways.

Count your blessings and go fuss about something that’s actually a problem.

  3. REAL WOMEN OF GENIUS

MISS CRAZY RANTING BLOG COMMENT SPAMMER

Bud Light Presents: Real Women of Genius (real women of genius). Today we salute you, Miss Crazy Ranting Blog Comment Spammer (Miss Crazy Ranting Blog Comment Spammer). Bravely exposing the seamy underbelly of beer drinking male sexism (beer drinking male sexism). You are obviously extremely smart, and your comments completely relevant (smart and rel-e-vant). We love the way you link to the lyrics, giving Bud Light free publicity (free publicity, oh yeah). So crack open an ice cold Bud Light, O’ bodacious banshee of comment spammers. When it comes to making a big fuss over nothing, you’re the natural woman (Miss Crazy Ranting Blog Comment Spammer).

  4. It’s a marketing campaign directed to the bud light demographic: Men. They aren’t trying to appeal to women, we all know they drink shit beer like Miller Lite. Anyways, it is just a joke. No where in this commercial did it say anything about beautiful women anyways. Obviously, you are ugly and/or fat and have no personality. Plain and simple, it is a joke. Not meant to criticize or undermine women. Humor, learn it, live it, love it. I know a lot of women that think it is funny. Grow up child!

  5. Wow. I am completely floored. Everything you said makes so much sense. I’m so glad that a woman finally had the sense to speak out.

I can certainly see where you’re coming from. I am seriously offended that all these wonderful, amazing, GENIUS inventions are attributed to men. I mean, you are so completely right. I can’t believe they have the audacity to attribute such fantastic inventions as jean shorts, foot long hotdogs, backyard bug zappers and taco salads, and such amazing habits and careers as nose picking, used car sales, really really really bad dancing, grocery produce stocking, basketball court sweat cleaning, eating pickled pigs feet, sneaky flatulation, horrible breath, and filling jelly donuts to MEN.

    THE NERVE!

  6. uhhh get a sense of humor? I’m a girl, and I think they are utterly halirious… call me one of the guys but I’m the kinda girl who likes the women belong in the kitchen jokes.

  7. Hrm… doesn’t allow for brackets. Anyway…

    (/dripping sarcasm)

Was what I said. Regarding my first post. Since I guess that part of it was missed.

  8. Well, the guys are totally right. I can totally see right through this. The women can be one of the After Halloween Costume salesman that they’re talking about in this new funny ad. Get a life! They’re supposed to be funny! Boo Hoo, for those who think that it’s demeaning and all that bull crap.

  9. To “sdrone”, The chick that wrote that can’t be sexy ’cause she talks. I’m joking, I’m joking!! It’s only a joke, just like the Bud Light ad. Lighten up already. There are more serious matters in the world to to become activistic about – global warming, killing animals, Wars(killing people), President Bush opening up Alaska to oil drilling, over population, etc, etc. I respect women more than 99.99% of the population, but this time it seems that you are just taking a position. Have a happy day, without cracking open that Bud Light. 🙂

  10. This one is for the ladies: Did any of you actually stop to think that these “GENIUS” inventions are actually things that are ridiculous, yet a part of the ‘every day’??( For example: Mr. Giant Foam Finger maker-or how about ‘Mr. Paranoid of the Ocean Guy’). Can you imagine for just a nano-second, that maybe some of these things ‘might’ poke fun at the so-called “Genius” of choice? If anything, they ARE sexist, AGAINST men. But that wasn’t the intention NOR the point, and especially being all fired up about the “Mr Mannequin Dresser Guy”. Are you really that offended by an anatomically incorrect, usually HEADLESS and sometimes ONLY torso-ed figures? Hey, I know: Why don’t you check out Andy’s little “Real Women Of Genius” ad, I think you might find it more your style. Or perhaps a new one titled “Mrs. Over-Zealous-Feminazi Activist”.

  11. Yes write letters. August A. Busch III really gives two drops of monkey piss about what you have to say. No, really he does!

  12. First of all, these ad’s are F*cking hilarious. Secondly, they sometimes make fun of men. Have you heard the one about the inventor of the rolling cooler? They go on to talk about how he as everything except a friend to help him carry his cooler.

And NEWS FLASH! There are Real Women Of Genius ones out there too! HOLY SHIT! Look some stuff up before you start nagging and bitching.

Its just a joke lady. Let it be. Apparently lots of people enjoy these commercials and you need to lighten up. Have a beer. Relax a little.
