The end of an era

I saw this on the morning news on NBC 5 this morning. So I could share it here, I found Metra says so long to its rail saloons in the Trib’s online edition.
Every weekday at 5:17 p.m., the bar car on Metra’s Milwaukee District West line becomes the place where everybody knows your name and [...]

Traffic Jam

This is my 400th post, and I waste it talking about delay in getting to work.
In any case, the other day I was delayed in getting to work by a traffic jam on the river.  I thought taking the water taxi was to help me avoid this stuff.

I’m doing it wrong!

Just heard on WBBM that the hotel in the Trump Tower is open, while they are still building the tower part.  A 2 bedroom suite on the 19th floor goes for $2600 a night.
If I had $2600, I’d probably do something different.

The secret to getting a lot of hits on your blog

So, apparently, to get a shit load of hits on your blog you need a popular afternoon radio show to mention something you mentioned once on your blog and is among the top three hits.  My server was having a nice little load and traffic spike as a result.
My unique visitors just today are [...]

I think the CTA is getting serious

The Gyro Melt

After weeks of telling me that I should go, I finally gave into Liz’s demands and tried out the gyro melt at CND Gyros at 205 E. Grand Ave. Basically, it was a patty melt (which is NOTHING like a cheeseburger, Ian!) with gyro meat. It may be one of the best things [...]

The condo, the condo, the condo is on fire

Today I went to eat lunch with Andrew at Hot Diggity Dogg, which is across the street from the new condos going up at 600 North Fairbanks.  It was extra exciting as there was a fire happening at the time.

In the year 2016, if the city is still alive

The Olympic committee was here in Chicago this week as da mayor tries to convince them to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago. Around the city in various poster kiosks is a poster pointing people to www.chicago2016.org and has an image of a runner and his reflection. I found the following poster installation [...]

A child of the Chicago area

In the morning while preparing to leave we normally have the tv on to catch the weather and a quick blast of news.  As usual, because we’re in their home market, an Empire commercial came on.  When the familiar 588-2300 jingle came on, my daughter just sang along with it.
Its both a proud moment [...]

I saved the whales

At least, I saved digital pictures of them.  After reading in the tribune how a new condo building will eventually hide the whale mural that is on the back of the InterContinental Hotel, I thought I’d take the three block walk from work and snap a few pictures.

There are more up on my gallery.
