The Tribune liked my photo (and so can you!)

The Tribune social media folks have been doing photo challenges/call outs where the winner for the week ends up being their banner on Facebook.  The challenge for March is “green.” I entered the first of my photos that I thought of when thinking about green.

I do not have the Facebooks, but if you do, you can see the image can see the image and like it and stuff. It was also a Photo of the Day back when I was doing that in 2011.

Trib Nation – Life Lessons: Photographing Chicago

Jason, Lena, and I took a class with two Chicago Tribune photographers. It was a good walking tour of downtown near our office, but more valuable was the quick photo review the photographers did after the walk. Having professionals look and comment was very cool and having a large group of people taking shots in the exact same area was great as you could see how different people approached where we were and caught things I hadn’t thought of.

It’s a jelly!

I took the kids to the Shedd Aquarium on Friday. The Jellies exhibit is still set up and this is set up for photography. All the jellyfish are set up in colored tanks to offset their color and lit well enough that you can easily get some spectacular shots.

You also get a bonus seahorse in there that wasn’t part of the Jellies exhibit, but I really liked the shot and wanted to share it.

Dinah makes the media

Today Dinah and I went to C2E2 for about 5 hours.  We had a great time, and what made it better was Dinah being in costume. Lots of people wanted to take their picture with her and she loved it.

For a good idea of what the day was like (and to see Dinah at the 7:22 mark) check out http://www.chicago3media.com/events/kevin-grace-at-chicago-comic-entertainment-expo-c2e2-2012 (the video is non-embeddable, deal with it.)

(I’ll update this post later with some images, just too wiped out right now.)

Photo 238: Chicago Skyline

Jason and I bought a Groupon on a few months back for Chicago Photo Safaris and after looking at the offerings decided to do one of the night time safaris to hone our night shooting skills. We stopped at 5 places in the downtown area over 4 hours.  This shot was taken from near the Adler Planetarium, which is a fantastic place to get a skyline shot.

I learned some good stuff from Jessica, our tour leader, and took advantage of the locations.  I’ll put up a flickr album with the best shots later, but I wanted to get today’s photo of the day up. (I’m exhausted due to the late night. Boo, I’m old!) I’ll definitely sign up for another trip with them next summer.
