Other Things DC

The other thing DC has done well lately is the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited shows. I was afraid that the quality would decline when they switched over to Unlimited and changed from the multi-part to single episode format. My fears have been unfounded as its been really good.

I like that with Unlimited we’re getting a mix of characters and really getting a good sense of all the characters outside of the Big 5. The Big 5 are a good draw, especially for the kids to latch onto. However, the DC universe has so many other great characters that its been wonderful to see the animators take advantage of that. On DC’s part, its a great tool for cultivating the young viewers of today to be the comic readers of tomorrow.

I also give them kudos for making great casting choices for the voices. My favorite of the past few weeks has been having Jeffery Combs (of Deep Space 9 and Enterprise fame) as the conspiracy theory chasing The Question. His voice was a perfect match for the character.

All in all, its just a joy to watch because its being done so well. Even when they do silly things like having Batman sing in an episode, it just works.

One more thing….Now, I do know that I am a little biased here, as some of the people they’ve had on, even in the background, have been some favorites of mine, especially in the episode from this past week. The episode featured Booster Gold, but there were also appearances by Ralph Dibny – the Elongated Man, Fire, and Ice.

I loved the appearance because I got to know and love those characters during the Giffen and DeMatteis run on JLA and JLE back when I was in high school. (Late 80s, early 90s.) The only person really missing (even if just in the background) of the episode was Blue Beetle. If you’re gonna have Fire and Ice, let’s have some Blue and Gold too! Actually, throwing Guy Gardner, the biggest jackass among Earth’s Green Lanterns (but in a lovable way) in the background would have been good too. (ONE PUNCH!) However, no G’Nort, please!

I also liked Huntress in a costume not unlike her current skin revealing outfit. But that’s due to my Birds of Prey fetish, not my Giffen/DeMatteis fetish.
