WLS does it again

Yes, its two day old news….

You think they would have learned after the Garry Meier fiasco, but WLS (and their talent) did it again. Don and Roma’s contract was up on Tuesday and the past two days have been Teri O’Brian and Art Wallis. I didn’t really agree with Don and Roma much, but they kept me entertained in the morning for at least 12 years. Its not destroying my morning routine, but its not the same either. Supposedly, WLS is still in talks with Don and Roma, but I’m not holding out hope. Once you take the talent off the air, it can’t be good.

Since I’d rather stick a fork in my eye than listen to Teri O’Brian, I guess I need to start setting my clock radio to something else. WBBM is looking pretty good.

Its a shame really. Don and Rom gone, Roe’s not as good without Garry….I’m starting to have no reason to listen to WLS. Jay Marvin is the only thing keeping me there, and I barely get a chance to listen to his show.

[Update 12/30: Those of you hitting my site today (thanks to google) are probably looking for this article I wrote a few days ago (in relation to this update.)]

  1. Thanks for the nice comments. I need all the support I can get. The place can really wear you down.

  2. Hey Jay! No problem man! I just wish you were on at any time other than 9-11am. Its so hard to get to listen then. However, today I’ve deceided to make an effort to listen no matter what. If I’m at my desk, you’re on.

  3. Quite frankly, I enjoy Teri in the morning. I stopped listening to Don and Roma because
    1) Half their show was filled with commercials and 2) Roma drove me CRAZY! I’m glad there is
finally an avenue for us conversatives to go and voice our opinions. The main stream media
is so liberal it makes me sick….. and sorry, Jay drives me crazy. I’m happy with WLS and
listen to the station more than ever now!

  4. God forbid one should hear dissenting opinion! Banish everyone that isn’t 100% conservative! What total bullshit, and the reason WLS is going into the crapper. Or WGOP as an intelligent man once called it.

For the record, I’m not conservative, but that’s not why I don’t like Teri. I just can’t stand the condesending tone and unnessesary meanness. I really enjoyed Don despite disagreements.

  5. I enjoy Jay and Eileen, even though I think Eileen is often, well, way off base. She’s pretty good about presenting her side and discussing things rationally. I don’t listen to the morning show at all.

  6. It’s not that I don’t like the rest of WLS’ talent, because I do, but “Don and Roma” represent one fourth of my radio pantheon which consists of Paul Harvey, Larry Lujacks’ ‘Animal Stories’, ‘Rush’ and ‘Don and Roma’. Had I grown up somewhere else there might be others but that is the pinnacle of radio entertainment in my lifetime. No one else comes close. [Notice that two of the four programs I listed were only able to maintain the entertainment level at maximum for a few minutes so I didn’t resent them recharging their batteries or taking a pay raise in the form of extra vactions, whatever was going on there.] To let them go is like walking away from a gold mine. It’s like moving and leaving the counterfeiting plates behind in the basement. It is too stupid for words. The flipside is that anyone who wants my three hours can get it simply by hiring ‘Don and Roma’. I only hope I don’t miss a day of their broadcast wherever they end up. I check the web almost daily to find out where they will end up.

[Terri O’Brien, I love’ya babe but…maybe with the right foil you could reach that level someday]

  7. “…the main stream media is so liberal it makes me sick…”

What a load of bunk! What is WLS-AM if not “main stream media”?

WLS is totally unlistenable now and has lost any semblance of balance. There is no moderating “moderate” viewpoint being aired. The on air talent and commentary has skewed so far to the right in orientation that it is completely beyond any reason.
