Photo 68: Father-in-law

Today I’m trying a non-traditional camera source for the photo of the day: my TiVo. My in-laws were at the game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning down in Tampa Bay.  My father in the law is the dude bending down to grin behind the Hawk’s assistant coach, Mike Haviland.

Even though there was a camera man on the other side, I’m calling them my photo of the day because of having to find the right shot, and do a bunch of post-processing to make it look halfway decent.  This is a LOT cleaner than the original image.

Bonus image of my FIL trying to flash a peace sign:

Photo 33: ToDo #4 – Day 3: Mid-blizz

Day 3 of:

4. Randomly pick a window in your house and make photographs from and through that window everyday for a week

It was still coming down, but it looks like most of the fun is close to being over.  But, man, look at this picture compared to yesterday’s.

I’ve added two bonus pictures of an epic drift against one of our windows and the view out our front window.  Our driveway has already been cleaned once, but check out the wall of snow at the end where the plow hasn’t come by. Also, the picture looks foggy, but that’s snow falling.

I also just added a picture of my Mom sent me of her neighbor’s house.  Crazy drifts.

Day 2 of:

4. Randomly pick a window in your house and make photographs from and through that window everyday for a week

This still does no justice for the snow blowing around, but you can see some of it in the dark areas around the chairs.

To try to illustrate the snow, I tried taking some HD video, and I still don’t think that’s really showing what’s going on.  (The video was also taking with the t2i.)  But hey, bonus video to go with the photo of the day.

Metracide still happening

I was delayed on Metra this morning due to train vs. pedestrian. Metra had another problem yesterday. People on the train this morning were talking about yesterday’s having been a suicide and its going around that today’s was as well.

It reminded me of an article I read and blogged about back in 2004.  Its a good read and worth revisiting given the past two days.  As bad as my day may be going (and it is,) I’m still alive, and I didn’t have to see a mutilated body and carry that emotional toll, as the article points out.

In discussing this on Twitter with @jason1749, he pointed out a few interesting things I’ll just quote.  The important bit of context you need is that back in June the then current head of metra, who was under fire for some scandals, performed a metracide.

@ktgeek I think I read that back in the day. That’s why that Metra Exec’s suicide was even more messed up. He knew what he was doing. — http://twitter.com/jason1749/statuses/21583904671

@ktgeek He was the guy who put most of the stuff in place to help engineers with mental issues coming out of suicides. — http://twitter.com/jason1749/statuses/21584110039
